Born 1975 in Osaka. Based in Kyoto. He received his Ph.D. in fine art sculpture from the Kyoto City university of Arts in 2003.
He is the director of “SANDWICH” a creative platform for production established in 2009 in Fushimi, Kyoto. In 2011 he made his solo exhibition “KOHEI NAWA – SYNTHESIS” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. He has developed various expressions with his unique concept “PixCell” as the cornerstone of his works. Nawa has actively participated in projects domestic and international through projects such as the “Inujima Art House Project” and the “Aichi Triennale 2013” with curator Yuko Hasegawa and architect Kazuyo Sejima. He has received many awards including the Jury’s Prize in Roppongi Crossing 2007, and First Prize, 14th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2010.
