EVERYDAY HOLIDAY SQUAD

Launched in 2012, SIDE CORE is Sakie Takasu, Tohru Matsushita, and Taishi Nishihiro. It develops projects in public space through the lens of street culture, aiming to change the perception and state of the landscape through actions on the streets. SIDE CORE has presented works that employ a wide variety of media, including outdoor sculptures and murals. Its major exhibitions include "Ripple" (2021, Watari Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo), "under pressure" (2021, Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, Aomori), and "Alternative Kyoto" (2021, Kyoto). SIDE CORE previously participated in Reborn-Art Festival in the 2017 and 2019 editions.

SIDE CORE(BIEN/EVERYDAY HOLIDAY SQUAD)
Towering Vacancy, 2022

For Reborn-Art Festival in 2017 and 2019, SIDE CORE worked on seawalls and their surrounding environment in the disaster area from the perspective of street culture. For this year, its third time to participate in the festival, SIDE CORE exhibits at an outdoor vacant lot where stands one of the soaring girders of Hiyori Bridge, which runs along the Ishinomaki coastline. Together with the artists BIEN and EVERYDAY HOLIDAY SQUAD, the group sets up “a construction site that produces nothing” at this vacant lot surrounded by seawalls, and creates an installation where sounds collected from various locations intersect.
