This ground is still alive, 2022

Takeshi Yasura is an artist based in France and Japan. He perceives technology, the animate and inanimate, and human beings all horizontally rather than vertically, aiming in his work to acknowledge their existence just the way they are. “I dug up and cultivated a place that had been filled with gravel and neatly cleared. Microorganisms are still alive even in this land reclaimed by humans. Since the soil was a little weak, I mixed it with compost I got from a dairy farmer on the peninsula and humus from the forest, and planted some trees. I hope that this place, where birds no longer alight, will become greener and that we will be able to hear sounds of nature.” (Takeshi Yasura)

fruiting body, 2022

Takeshi Yasura perceives technology, the animate and inanimate, and human beings all horizontally rather than vertically, aiming in his work to acknowledge their existence just the way they are. “This installation mixes the artificial and natural as well as the animate and inanimate. One of the most notable features of the work is the use of rock salt. Crystallized on land when the seafloor was uplifted due to tectonic movements in ancient times, we might call rock salt a ‘fossil’ of seawater. In Yasura’s work, as a result of the entanglement of several factors, rock salt, a fossil born in the distant sea is hatched in this space and moment.” (Text: Yu Takagi)
